So the next question becomes:
How does AI work with information that it cannot permanently keep in memory?
Imagine a lawyer preparing for a case.
Thousands of laws exist. No one can memorize all of them.
Instead, the lawyer refers to books, case files, and highlighted sections to find the exact information needed for the situation at hand.
The value does not come from memorizing every law.
It comes from knowing where to find the right one when needed.
Now think about your digital intern.
AI works in a very similar way.
It cannot store every piece of information inside its working memory. Instead, it retrieves relevant information from external sources and brings it into the current context before generating a response.
This allows the system to work with far more information than it could otherwise hold directly.
In artificial intelligence, this process is known as retrieval.
The model searches external knowledge sources, pulls the most relevant information, and uses it to answer the current task more accurately.
This is an important shift.
The goal is no longer to make AI remember everything.
The goal is to help AI access the right information at the right time.
Because intelligence is not just memory.
It is access.
